FITNESS, FUN & FEELING GREAT

The role of the Yogakids Facilitator is to build strong, healthy, flexible bodies and minds, to nurture the development of children's innate joy and inner wisdom, to create and maintain an atmosphere of acceptance that promotes trust, and to uncover their encoded sense of peace and well-being amidst the changes, challenges and confusion of growing up. Each child develops a sense of achievement and confidence in his/her creativity and experience.

The Facilitator and the children are always learning from each other as they stretch, breathe, relax and enjoy the many benefits of yoga in fun and playful ways. The kids engage in active, inspiring class activities that include storytelling, music, art and games, and are guided slowly to a place of quiet and relaxation.

SPECIAL NEEDS
The healing and learning powers of yoga can have wonderful effects on children with special needs. Whether children have learning difficulties, nervous conditions, physical handicaps or even illnesses such as cancer, their reaction to yoga is almost always positive. The Yogakids way is to intitiate and guide a process that is innately therapeutic without tension and expectation.

AUTISM: Yoga improves feelings of connection, enhances motor and communication skills and can do wonders for a child’s self-esteem.

ADD & ADHD: These children have one primary difficulty - focus. And focus is at the very heart of yoga. The combination of breathing methods and poses helps attention-deficit children develop greater body awareness, emotional balance and concentration, increasing their capacity for schoolwork and creative play. The best thing for attention-deficit children is regular practice - at least 2-3 times per week.

CEREBRAL PALSY: The primary benefit of yoga for these children is the focus on breathing, stretching and realignment of the spine. This releases muscular tension and enhances overall nerve function which gives the child more movement, co-ordination and flexibility.

DOWN'S SYNDROME: As with any developmental disability, yogic breathing can improve the central nervous system and help develop body awareness, concentration and memory. Yoga poses stabilize joints, bolster integrity in the connective tissue and build muscle strength and tone.
